Shaftesbury is a small market town in Dorset with a fascinating history going back to Saxon times. The town is the home of Gold Hill (made famous by the “Hovis” advert) and has magnificent views over Thomas Hardy’s Blackmore Vale. It is the gateway to the South West from where you can tour the area from Stonehenge to the east to Bath and Bristol to the north and the Jurassic Coast to the south.

The ruins of Shaftesbury Abbey and the Gold Hill Museum (Open April – October) are very popular together with the town’s many independent shops and Swan’s Yard, the creative heart of Shaftesbury.

The outdoor swimming pool is open from May and there are a number of events and festivals held throughout year. Meanwhile, the stunning landscapes around Shaftesbury are accessible and offer the chance to blow away the stresses of the city.

The Tourist Information Centre is staffed by friendly volunteers who are happy to help with any queries or enquiries you may have; we also stock an extensive range of books, gifts, maps and souvenirs.

Not only do we hold a wide range of local information but we are also able to provide brochures for other attractions throughout Dorset and neighbouring counties

We provide a support service to all our customers, whether they are local businesses, attraction owners, visitors to the area or accommodation providers – if you need accommodation or have empty beds, we aim to match one with the other!

We sell tickets for local events from local shows, film nights and concerts to festivals and regional shows, including: Shaftesbury Arts Centre, Salisbury Playhouse, Gillingham & Shaftesbury Show, The Great Dorset Steam Fair, Yeovilton Air Day and The Bath & West Show. (We also sell Theatre Tokens which are valid at hundreds of theatres throughout Britain).

In addition, we are also a recognised PayPoint outlet, so you can call in to pay your TV licence, top-up your mobile phone and settle most utilities bills. You can also send parcels through Yodel, Collect+ and Fedex or collect deliveries from Amazon, Collect+, eBay and Fedex.

From October to December, we also sell Christmas Cards for over 30 different charities as part of the “Cards For Good Causes” scheme.
